Dr Ferraro's Green Clay Mask Recipes August 19, 2017 09:00

Base Mask¹
1 cup of Fine Green Clay, 1 tablespoon of Honey, 1 tablespoon of Sweet Almond or Olive oil, ½ cup of natural mineral water. These four natural substances are rich in solar forces and solar heat.
In one cup of mineral water, dissolve the honey, add the oil and mix well, then gradually add 1 cup of fine clay continuing to stir energetically until the mixture is smooth and creamy. This is the base mask.

Attention: After 3 minutes the mask will begin to pull at the skin, this is a normal reaction. After having removed the mask, in some cases the skin will be reddened, this too is a normal reaction on some skin types. In the case of very sensitive skin a light burning sensation can be felt on the skin accompanied by some reddening. This is also a natural reaction.

Important: A few minutes after applying a mask you will notice a pleasing sense of freshness and relaxation of the skin. After having removed the mask you will find that your skin has become softer.

How to use: Using a small spatula, spread the mask on your face and forehead, leaving it in place for the time specified in the recipe. Then remove the mask using a sponge dampened with warm water.

Mask for normal skin¹
To the BASE mask add half a teaspoon of Wheatgerm oil and mix well. 1-3 drops of essential oil of Lavender may be added if desired.
Leave mask in place for 10 minutes.

Mask for dry skin¹
To the BASE mask add 2 tablespoons of Mallow leaf2 infusion, half a teaspoon of Mosqueta Rose oil or Borage oil and mix well. 1-3 drops of Sandalwood essential oil may be added if desired.
Leave mask in place for 10 minutes.

Mask for greasy skin¹ (Bracing and Refreshing)
To the BASE mask add one tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon or grapefruit juice and mix well. 1 – 3 drops of Lemon essential oil may be added if desired.
Leave in place for 10 minutes.

Mask for decollette¹ (Moisturizing, elasticizing)
To the BASE mask add 2 tablspoons of Soya milk. 1-3 drops of Sandalwood essential oil may be added if desired.
Leave mask in place for 15 minutes.

Mask for the breasts¹ (Firming)
To the BASE mask add 2 tablespoons of Sageleaf infusion and mix together. 1-3 drops of Rose or Ylang-Ylang essential oil may be added if desired.
Leave mask in place for 10 to 20 minutes.

Mask for thighs¹ (Firming)
To the BASE mask add 2 tablespoons of fresh Crabapple or Green Apple juice, 1 tablespoon of Grapeseed oil and mix well. 1-3 drops of Rosemary essential oil may be added if desired.
Leave mask in place for 10-20 minutes.

Mask for the abdomen¹ (Reduces swelling)
To the BASE mask add 2 tablespoons of Castor oil and mix together. 1-3 drops of Anise or Fennel essential oil may be added if desired.
Leave mask in place for 10-20 minutes.

Mask for the back¹ (Relaxing)
To the BASE mask add 2 tablespoons of infusion of Mountain Arnica flowers and leaves and mix together, 1-3 drops of Cinnamon or Thyme essential oil may be added if desired.
Leave mask in place for 15-20 minutes.

Mask for stretch marks¹
To the BASE mask add 2 tablespoons of Carrot juice, 1 tablespoon of Grapeseed oil, 1-2 tablespoons of Avocado oil and mix together. 1-3 drops of Lemon Balm essential oil may be added if desired.
Leave in place for 10-20 minutes.

Mask for the cosmetic treatment of cellulite¹
To the BASE mask add 1 tablespoon of Sweet Orange essential oil and mix together.
Leave in place for 10 – 20 minutes.

Hair mask¹ (Gives body and strength to hair)
To the BASE mask add 4 tablespoons of Equisetum infusion (this mask should be quite liquid for easier application to the hair and scalp) and mix together.
1-3 drops of Ylang-Ylang essential oil may be added if desired. Apply the mask to wet hair ensuring that the clay penetrates both the hair and the scalp and cover with a shower cap.
Leave for 10 minutes, rinse with hot water, and then shampoo. You may wish to use one of the four ARGITAL Shampoos: Purifying Shampoo, Shampoo for Greasy Hair and Anti-Dandruff; Shampoo for Normal Hair; Shampoo for Blonde Hair.

Slimming bath
When the bath is full of water, add three or four handfuls of fine clay. When the Clay is added to hot water it will disperse spontaneously. While you are bathing the movement of your arms and legs will be sufficient to keep the Clay in suspension. Bathing with clay does not dirty your skin, so it is best not to rinse yourself when you get out of the bath. You will note with pleasure that your skin has become softer. You can clean the bath of clay deposits with a jet of water from the shower. The clay will not block the bathroom plumbing.

Vaginal douchings and irrigation
In a small basin of warm water or in the bidet, add 1 tablespoon of Activated Clay and mix. With this clayey solution you can irrigate or douche. For irrigations it is necessary to pour the solution into an appropriate irrigator. At the end of douching or irrigating it is not necessary to rinse with water.

Foot-Bath and Hand-Bath (Relaxing)
Put a handful of finely powdered clay in a small basin or in the bidet with warm water. Dip your feet or hands in the solution, rubbing one foot (or hand) against the other. Continue until the water has cooled. 1-3 drops of Lemon Balm or Lavender essential oil may be added if desired.

NOTE: If you are short of time, Argital has two ready to use clay masks:

Argiltubo -  with Demeter certified Equisetum, Calendula and Lavandula, and Borage seed oil.

1  Add a little more clay to give more body to the mask or a little more water to soften it.

2  The infusions should be freshly prepared at the time of usage.

Argital - Demeter Certified Cosmetics April 25, 2016 09:00

Demeter is the internationally-recognized trademark that certifies medicinal herbs, and in general, all agricultural products which are produced using biodynamical methods introduced by Rudolf Steiner. They are equivalent to or higher than basic organic standards. The Demeter scheme is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and is recognised as a UK Organic certifying body (GB-ORG-06).

A biodynamic farm functions as a strong, self-sustaining and vibrant single organism that recognizes and respects the basic principles at work in nature. It is a complete system in which all the different components of the farm are seen as parts of a greater whole. With farm animals at the center of a self-sustaining, balanced and harmonious environment is the result.

Special manure and herb-based preparations are applied to the fields and compost to enhance and stimulate the microbiological life in the soil and improve fertility. These have been shown to significantly improve the health and well being of soil, plant and animal as well as enhancing the vitality, flavour and keeping qualities of the produce for the benefit of the consumer. With the soil sequestering up to 25% more carbon than conventional farming methods, the health of the planet is also cared for. Biodynamic is a sound basis for sustainable food production.

Further to this, the biodynamic farmer recognizes that the life of a farm is exposed to wider, as well as internal farm-based influences. The more subtle rhythms associated with the sun, the moon and the planets form the basis of an annually produced planting calendar. This guides the farmer towards appropriate times for cultivation and sowing for maximum quantity and quality.

The result is a rich and diverse farm built on sound organic principles that is embedded and sensitized to its surroundings. It produces food with such an individual quality that, as with wine, it can be described as having the ‘terroir’ of the farm – the sense of the place where it was grown.

A list of independent shops that sell biodynamic/Demeter produce in the UK are published on the Biodynamic Association website: http://www.biodynamic.org.uk/start-here/where-to-buy/

Argital is Demeter certified. You can find a list of all of the ingredients used in each product, including those that are biodynamic farmed, on our product packaging and the product pages on our website.

Eczema and Skin Allergies February 02, 2016 11:40

Today, I was saddened to find out that a 6-year old friend of mine had spent three days in hospital due to infected eczema. Cold weather is the most common trigger for skin allergies and can aggravate the symptoms of eczema. It is important to keep the skin well hydrated by bathing and moisturising, and keeping indoor environments well ventilated.

For information and support, see the National Eczema Association and Allergy UK websites.

Argital’s Allergen Free ranges were developed to soothe and counteract the effects of allergic reactions to external irritators, such as synthetic ingredients in cosmetics. They contain Organic Violet to soothe sensitive skin besides Marine Green Clay, which is protective and purifying. All of Argital’s products are of 100% genuine organic ingredients, that work to harmonize the skin. They are Demeter, Organic and Vegan certified, besides others (see our Certifications for more details).

Argital’s Ventilated Active Green Clay can also be added to bath water to assist in skin regeneration.

To help to protect the skin of my little friend and other children unfortunate to suffer with eczema or other skin allergies, we will be having a special promotion on our Allergen Free Baby range during this cold season, with 40% off. The Allergen Free Baby can be used by all ages and is especially suitable for those with sensitive skin.

This offer will be valid until the 29th February 2016 and while stocks last.

New Year. New Skin - Healthy and Beautiful Skin for 2016 January 01, 2016 09:00

We all know that beautiful skin starts from within.

Hormones, digestion and modern skin care are the cause of most acne problems. Fortunately, there 5 easy steps that you can take to get your skin smooth and healthy again.

5 Steps to Beautiful Skin:

  1. Introduce fermented foods and probiotics into your diet. A healthy gut is lined with billions of beneficial bacteria that boost our immune system. The helpful bacteria found in fermented foods and probiotics keep your digestive system moving quickly and efficiently.
  2. Minimize inflammation. Optimize your insulin levels by eliminating gluten grains and processed-sugar from your diet. When insulin levels are normalized, the underlying inflammatory conditions that promote the unfriendly bacterial growth on your skin disappear. Minimize the dietary causes of inflammation and your skin will heal and glow.
  3. Keep a clean colon. Constipation is no fun, for many reasons. If your digestive system is backed up, hormones are not effectively processed by the liver, and this can cause hormonal acne around the jawline and chin. Also, proteins, pathogens and toxins that are not processed through the digestive system are often sent to the skin to be excreted, resulting in acne and blemishes. If you will remove from your diet glutens and foods with low nutritional value, and have a series of colonics, you can clear up constipation. This will free up your digestive system to do its job of eliminating waste so that you skin can do its job: protecting you and looking radiant.
  4. Balance your hormones. Women, have your 28 day cycle. Birth control pills wreak havoc with hormone levels! There are also few simple dietary changes that will help clear up excess estrogen that can lead to acne: eliminate soy from your diet and eat your broccoli! Soy stimulates estrogen production, which leads to hormone surplus. Cruciferous veggies, such as broccoli and cabbage, are high in Indol 3 carbonyl which helps the body excrete estrogen, so it is very important to fill your meals with these powerful veggies. Also, supplement your diet with herbs like partridge berry, vitex and passion flower, which are powerful, and safe, hormone stabilizers.
  5. Rethink clean. Your skin does not need to be stripped squeaky clean with soaps, alcohols and chemicals to be clean! That beneficial top layer of skin that is so harshly stripped away is comprised of the Hydro-Lipid-Barrier and Acid Mantle. The lipid barrier is your skin's water-proof seal, enabling the skin to retain water and shielding you from foreign substances trying to enter your body. The Acid Mantle is the natural layer of acidic-oils on the skin that fights acne causing bacteria. Healthy skin is home to friendly flora that are a vital part of the body's immune system, which thrive only on skin with the top layer of lipids in place.

All modern skin care regimes, including foaming cleansers and most toners break the skin's water proof seal and obliterate the acid mantle, leaving the skin vulnerable to acne-causing bacteria and even inducing inflammatory acne in response to the toxins in harsh chemicals. Stripped of its natural lipids, the skin reacts by producing more oil to regulate its own moisture. When the bacterial balance is compromised, blemishes will occur until the Hydro-Lipid-Barrier is established.

Clean your skin gently and thoroughly, with natural organic oils, like Jojoba or Olive Oil and without harming the acid mantle or lipid barrier. Argital's Allergen Free range is especially gentle on the skin. Besides the protective and anti-ageing properties of Marine Green Clay, the range contains Organic Violet extract, which has eudermic, skin-soothing properties to help desensitize problematic skin.

For specific care of blemishes, topical applications of essential oils like rosemary and niaouli are helpful. They are astringent and anti-bacterial, and can be applied to acne and acne-prone skin with superior, glowing-skin results.

Argital's Lip Balm can also be applied to the eye area as a natural, delicate and soothing eye balm.

During the month of January, and to promote Healthy and Beautiful Skin for 2016, every order of two or more products from the Allergen Free Face Range will receive a complimentary full-sized Allergen Free Lip Balm, while stocks last.

December – The skin is a Starry Sky December 01, 2015 09:00

Dr Ferraro's tip for December is a mask of green clay and rose essential oil.

Basic face mask

Fine green clay: 1 cup
Extra Virgin Olive oil: 1 teaspoon
Still mineral water: 1/2 cup
Rose Gold Essential oil: 3 drops
Honey: 1 teaspoon

Pour the mineral water into a cup, add the Olive oil and stir. Keep stirring as you add the essential oil and the Clay a small amount at a time. Mix vigorously until you get a smooth and shiny cream. Add a little more clay to obtain a thicker mask or a little more water for a softer mask. Spread the mask on your face and forehead and leave it on for 10 minutes. Remove using a sponge damped in warm water.

Zodiac bath

Add three or four handfuls of fine Clay to bath water. When Clay is added to hot water it will disperse spontaneously. While you are bathing, the movement of your arms and legs will be sufficient to keep the Clay in suspension. Add 7 drops of Gold Rose Essential oil.

Bathing with clay does not dirty your skin, so it is best not to rinse yourself when you get out of the bath. After the water has drained out of the bath, you will notice a particular artistic figure drawn by the clay, which will be different each time; it is said to be a quality of the image of your soul.
